A single-herb liquid extract of dried peel of Citrus × aurantiifolia, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Key lime is the small thorny one. Its fruit is barely golf-ball sized, thin-skinned, seedy and far more aromatic than the big seedless Persian lime that dominates supermarkets, and it turns yellow rather than green when properly ripe. It came from Southeast Asia through the Arab world to the Mediterranean and then to the Caribbean, and the Florida Keys crop that gave it its name was largely destroyed by the 1926 hurricane.

Glycerite: Citrus × aurantiifolia dried peel, vegetable glycerin USP, distilled water.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Lime peel makes skin very sensitive to sunlight. The furanocoumarins in it cause a severe blistering burn on sun-exposed skin, so avoid strong sun and tanning beds while taking it and wash your hands after handling. Citrus peel can also change the blood levels of a number of prescription medicines — take advice first if you are on regular medication.

Keep out of reach of children. Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs. Do not use if the tamper seal is broken or missing. Store tightly capped in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
